Who is LemurKat?
LemurKat is a Zoology Geek and a Bibliophile rolled into one. This possibly explains why she has a Science Degree but chooses to work in a bookstore. Her love of the exotic and the unusual has led her on several overseas expeditions - to Australia, Hawaii and Madagascar, with further trips planned for the future. For now she lives happily in New Zealand with her wonderful (not-so-long-suffering) husband and spoilt inner child.
She has this to say about her Artistic Endevours:
"Art is my outlet - my relaxation after a hard day's work and also a reason for getting out of bed in the morning. I love the quirky and off-beat, the oddball and the whimsical. In early August, 2005, I made an amazing discovery - one that would change my life. I found Artist Trading Cards (ATCs as they are known). These diminutive works of art measure a mere 2.5 x 3.5 inches and are to be traded, not sold. As a devoted Pokemon Card Collector, and already addicted to art trades, they seemed the perfect hobby. And thus it has been, some four years and over 2000 cards later. My art is now to be found in every continent (except Antarctica) and in no less than 60 countries, including mysterious Madagascar, Chile, Guatemala, Hawaii and the Philippines. It graces the walls of artists all around the world. My own personal collection is spectacular and occupies a great many scrapbooks. For inspiration, I look mostly to nature, but love anything a little bit quirky. If left to my own devices there would be no lions or tigers or wolves from me! I adore the unusual, the ugly, the misbegotten and the forgotten. Luckily for you, my audience, I do most of my drawings by request! I'm willing to try anything and everything and love a challenge.
Imagination is everything, but practise helps."
Her chosen materials were polychromos and watercolour pencils, along with the occasional use of markers and gel pens. Recently she discovered Prismacolors, and has fallen in love. The almost chalky consistency of their colour blends superbly. Unfortunately, they are a somewhat more fragile than Polys and she is a bit hard handed, with her colouring. Hopefully, with time and practise, this shall improve.
You may notice the consistent appearance of a ringtail lemur in Angela's art. Katta, as this character is now known, has been one of her characters for many years now - starting as a full-blown anthropromorphic "furry", she has since devolved into a playful lemur of the four-legged kind - albeit occasionally depicted with wings. Her story too has mutated and changed and thus shall probably never be written. She remains a muse and an avatar. Look for her amongst these pages!
